For Graduate and Undergraduate Wayne State University Applicants
For most degree programs at Wayne State University, students who do not have the minimum level of English language proficiency but meet all other admissions requirements are eligible for provisional admission.
To be considered for provisional admission, students submit their application materials to the English Language Institute (ELI), who will work with departments on campus to determine whether or not they meet all other requirements. If so, students may then enroll in English classes at ELI and once they achieve the required English proficiency (550 TOEFL, 79 iBT) they can pursue their admission to their intended degree programs.
International students interested in an admission to a degree program after they complete their English studies at Wayne State should include the following information in their application package:
- Wayne State University International Graduate or Undergraduate Admission Application
- Testing fee payable to Wayne State University
- Copy of the first two pages of the student’s passport
- Copy of dependents’ first two pages of passport if applicable
- Statement of Support Form or scholarship letter
- Copy of the student’s transcripts
- One passport-sized photo of the student
Please send the application package to the following address:
Dr. Bruce Morgan
351 Manoogian Hall
Wayne State University
906 West Warren Avenue
Detroit, MI 48202 U.S.A.
Or contact Dr. Morgan at firstname.lastname@example.org or 313-577-8072.
Please do not submit any documents online, since all online applications are processed by other University offices.
Students meeting the requirements for Provisional Admission will receive an ELI I-20, an official ELI admission letter and an official letter of acceptance from the University in an academic program for the following year. These should all be presented at the student’s visa interview.
NOTE: Students will study full-time in the ELI program until they meet the Wayne State University English proficiency requirement. The ELI I-20 will be changed into a University I-20 after the student meets the English language proficiency requirements for fulltime admission.
